Questions

Is the self-hosted version limited in any way?
No. It's the same software with every feature. Hosting just saves you from running the server, the sign-in service, HTTPS, backups and updates yourself.
What do I need to self-host?
A Linux machine or VM with Docker (or a NixOS host) that your devices can reach over HTTPS. The installation guide walks you through it.
What do I get for paying more than $9?
The same service and support as everyone else. Paying more is simply a way to support ongoing development of the open-source project. You can change the amount, down to $9, at any time, and it applies from your next invoice.
Do you host lighthouses or relay my traffic?
No. We host the Nebula Commander control plane, which issues certificates and configuration. Lighthouses and relays run on your own machines, so your traffic goes device to device.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes. Cancel from your account page and you keep access until the end of the period you've paid for. After that the instance is suspended and deleted 30 days later. You can resubscribe any time before then and pick up where you left off.
What happens if a payment fails?
Stripe retries the payment automatically and we email you. If it still hasn't gone through after the retries, the instance is suspended until you update your payment method. Your data is kept.
Can I move between hosted and self-hosted?
Yes. To move off the hosted version, email us and we'll send you an export of your instance's data and keys to run on your own server.
Can I use my own domain?
Not on the hosted plan yet; each instance lives at a subdomain of nebulacdr.net. Self-hosted, you can use any domain you like.
